NSBAG Season 5

Our little book arts group has just kicked off its fifth year! To get things started, our first meeting on October 1st was a casual meet-and-greet and show-and-tell. Everyone was invited to bring along something that they might want to share, recent work, interesting books, etc. We also had two featured members who presented their work in more detail.

Stephanie Morley talked about some workshops and bookbinding courses that she has taken over the last couple of years. In particular, she discussed the work done in the courses she has taken as part of the Core Curriculum certificate program offered by CBBAG. This has included several historic bookbinding structures, full leather bindings, and related techniques.

On the other end of the book arts spectrum, Sally Crawford presented her work which explores the artistic use of book arts techniques to create unique art objects. Sally has been studying a variety of techniques related to paper making, natural dyes, and eco printing which she uses to creatively explore book forms and how, through content and form, we may speak with the Earth.

Thank you to Stephanie and Sally for sharing your work with us and so clearly illustrating how broad the realm of book arts can be. Also, thanks to everyone else who came to the meeting to chat and share a little bit about yourselves!
